Rat Movie Remixes are a series of edits posted to Soundcloud in which popular songs are edited to include audio clips from the "Rat Movie" YouTube videos made by Jerma.
Origin
On November 6th, 2014, Jerma985 posted a video to Youtube titled Rat Movie: Mystery of the Mayan Treasure. The video, shown below, left, has over 593,000 views as of December 2nd, 2016. He posted a sequel, Rat Movie 2: The Movie, on April 7th, 2015, which gained over 464,000 views, shown below, right.[1] The videos are characterized by their antiquated, poor computer animation and absurdist humor.
In Rat Movie 2: The Movie, a song plays early on for the character Michael's birthday. The audio of this would inspire dozens of Soundcloud remixes in late 2016.
Spread
On October 30th, 2016, ViivaNunner published the first Rat Movie remix to Youtube. The song, shown below, was mixed with the Super Mario World 64 Ending Theme and gained 1,008 views.
On November 8th, 2016, Soundcloud user HotSpicyMemes posted a Rats remix to the site under the name "Rats Stalk The Night" (shown below).
In the coming days, dozens of remixes would follow,[2] including ones with The Nutshack and You Reposted In the Wrong Neighborhood.
