About

Rating Pokémon by Smashability is a trend on TikTok set to "Loser" by Lil Shine where participants use a Pokemon tier list filter to rank randomly selected Pokémon by how much they want to have sex with them. The trend went viral in later April 2023, continuing to prove popular throughout early May. The trend is similar to smash or pass trends, most notably Markiplier's 'smash or pass' Pokemon video.

Origin

It is unclear who first rated Pokemon by smashability on TikTok. On April 24th, 2023, multiple TikTokers posted videos participating in the trend, including TikToker[1] @diananewgeneration, garnering over 3.1 million views in a week (shown below, left) and TikToker[2] @guidebirdd, garnering over 2.3 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Spread

The trend continued to spread over the course of late April and early May 2023. Some of the videos begin with users jokingly shaming people who participate in the trend, followed by them doing the trend themselves. On April 26th, TikToker[3] @brotherchango posted a video doing the trend that gained over 3.9 million views in a week, becoming one of the most popular examples (shown below).

On April 30th, Twitter[4] user @therealugs shared a screenshot of people doing the trend, writing, "Lil Shine’s 'Loser' is currently going viral due to a Pokémon smashability TikTok trend," garnering over 2,000 likes in three days. On the same day, TikToker[5] @…blos posted a video doing the trend, garnering over 1.4 million views in the same span of time (shown below).
