Realizing 2014 Is Only Three Months Away refers to a GIF usually with Davey Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but sometimes with other characters, reacting with exaggerated shock to the realization that 2014 is three months away. Though this would suggest the meme was originally posted in September of 2013, it has become more widely reposted in the 2020s.

It is unclear if the original meme was actually posted in 2013. The earliest known post of the GIF was on iFunny^[1] by user Logart on March 3rd, 2021, where it gained over 540 likes in two and a half years.

Spread

After some reposts over the following two years, including a repost in /r/OkBuddyRetard^[2] that gained over 33,000 points, the meme saw a spike in interest following a June 27th, 2023 TikTok by bannaman06 that dubbed over the GIF, gaining over 308,000 likes in four months (shown below).

The TikTok soon inspired various parodies in which people added different characters or redrew the original. For example, on August 14th, TikToker biggib321 posted an example using the Tony Soprano Sees The Gyatt video, gaining over 34,000 likes in two months (shown below, left). On October 21st, artist NCS_artist posted an animation of the meme, gaining over 1.4 million likes in five days (shown below, right).
