On September 3rd, TMZ[1] reported that singer Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner are headed for a divorce. On September 5th, the website reported[2] that Joe Jonas filed for divorce and cited a source saying that "[Turner] likes to party, [Jonas] likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles." A September 6th article[3] reported that Jonas allegedly did so after catching Turner "saying and/or doing something" on a ring camera.
The news went viral on X[4][5][6] and other social media as Pop Crave, Pop Base and other news accounts reported on it (examples shown below).
On September 7th, 2023, X[7] user @SophRossss made a post in which she imagined a humorous reason for the divorce, writing, "Sophie Turner "never kept the batteries and pens stocked," a source tells TMZ." The post (shown below) received over 4,200 reposts and 111,600 likes in three days.

Later on September 7th, 2023, X[8] user @autisticdreamer made a post which offered another joke reason for the divorce, which received over 830 reposts and 21,900 likes in three days (shown below).
In the following days, various X[9][10] users posted joke reasons for Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's divorce. For example, on September 8th, X user @chinaelevy made a post that received over 11,500 reposts and 162,200 likes in two days (shown below, left).
