Rev Up Those Fryers is a quote from the show Spongebob Squarepants. The line has long been the subject of ironic image macros, parody videos and YouTube Poops.

Origin

The phrase is spoken by an unnamed fish in a scene from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Argh!" In the scene, a fish walks into the Krusty Krab,and says the phrase "Rev up those fryers, cause I am sure hungry for one-" before being thrown out by Mr. Krabs. The earliest known usage of the phrase as a meme comes from a post on 4chan's anime (/a/) board on July 3rd, 2010.^[1]

Spread

On July 10th, 2010, the clip was uploaded to Youtube, amassing over 240,000 views over 5 years (shown below, left). On July 24th, a video was made looping the scene where the character enters the Krusty Krab (shown below, right).

Over the following years, the scene became the subject of multiple image macros and exploitable edits and was primarily popular on 4chan (examples shown below).

The meme later expanded to platforms such as Tumblr and Reddit. For example, on August 19th, 2019, a Redditor posted a variation on the meme to /r/bikinibottomtwitter,^[2] gaining over 320 points (shown below, left). In 2013, a Tumblr user photoshopped Gordon Ramsay's face onto the fish in response to a Tumblr user posting "rev up those FUCKING FRYERS" (shown below, right).
