Severe Back Pain refers to a Breaking News Parody snowclone reading "BREAKING NEWS: (X Celebrity) has been hospitalized for severe back pain after carrying (X subculture) on their back. The snowclone began on Twitter before spreading elsewhere in images using the breakyourownnews site.
Origin
On March 9th, 2019, Twitter user @RonIsObsessed[1] started the snowclone with the tweet "BREAKING NEWS: Kylie Minogue reportedly hospitalised from severe back pain from carrying the entire LGBT community on her back." The tweet gained over 700 retweets and 4,100 likes (shown below).
Spread
Over the following two months, the snowclone spread primarily through Twitter with other users making versions with other celebrities, characters, and subcultures. Other popular versions include a May 13th, 2019 tweet by @bucksslegacy[2] about WWE wrestler Bray Wyatt carrying Monday Night Raw, gaining over 500 retweets and 2,100 likes (shown below, left). On May 15th, @TheMarvelFandom[3] made a joke about Tom Holland about having to carry every emotional scene in Marvel films, gaining over 160 retweets and 760 likes (shown below, right).
Also in May, the format expanded to include images created with the breakyourownnews[4] generator. The first example of this, posted to Imgur[5] on May 1st, involved Jim Carrey playing Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog film (shown below, left). On May 16th, an edit posted by YellowxMarmalade in /r/wow[6] gained over 15,000 points (shown below, right).
