The Frog in Tom Holland's Mouth

The Frog In Tom Holland's Mouth refers to a joke theory spread through Tumblr that Holland looks like he is hiding a frog in his mouth and he can't open his mouth or else it will escape. On July 27th, Tumblr user opossume wrote a text post that read:

ok tom holland is cute and all but he constantly looks like he’s hiding a frog in his mouth and it’s uncomfortably hopping around in there but he can’t open his mouth or the frogs gonna escape

A few minutes after that post, user fruitmeats added several photos of Holland to opossume's post to demonstrate what she meant. The post has gained over 106,000 notes (shown below).

The popularity of the post led to the joke to spread through Tumblr over the course of the following days, as users made text posts and image macros playing off the idea. Several inside jokes have developed as part of this theory. For example, a common thread in the jokes is that the frog is named "Dave" (example shown below, left). Others play off a theory that the frog in Holland's mouth is actor Tobey Maguire, who played Spider-Man in the original 2002 film (shown below, right). That theory stems from a piece of trivia that James Franco, who played Harry Osborne in the film, compared Maguire's looks to that of a frog on set for the film.

When James Franco joked about Tobey Maguire's 'frog-like' features on set, the latter was reportedly genuinely upset by Franco's comments. This created friction between the two actors, which led to the existing rivalry between them now - a rivalry that was admitted to by Maguire in interviews since the Spider-Man franchise. 84 of 87 found this interesting Share this obwian plot twist: tobey maguire is actually the frog in tom holland's mouth and tom won't free him until tobey agrees to play uncle ben

"I Don't Feel So Good…"

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos is able to wipe out half the population using the Infinity Stones. This leads many characters to disintegrate. This was parodied in the Disintegration Effect meme which spread after the film was released. The line "I don't feel so good…" which is commonly paired with the photoshopped effect is said by Holland's Spider-man in the film.

On April 30th, Twitter user @IceSeason101 tweeted an image from The Simpsons Steamed Hams meme. The post (shown below, left) received more than 865 retweets and 2,900 likes in 24 hours.

High Voice

Online, Holland's fans have joked about Holland's high voice, often by rendering what he says in a bizarre typeface that makes the words appear small. On June 30th, 2017, Entertainment Weekly posted an interview with Holland playing with Avengers action figures (shown below).

In May of 2018, the clip was reposted to Twitter by several fans who rendered the words Holland says in the video in a strange typeface. On May 12th, user @lokisluts made the joke, gaining over 79,000 retweets and 195,000 likes (shown below, left). User @tosmspidey posted an Instagram live video of Holland asking "what does yeet mean?", gaining over 9,600 retweets and 29,000 likes, to which user @voidtrbl responded with the joke (shown below, right). These jokes were covered by The Daily Dot.[2]
