Shalissa refers to a popular Vine video that has been the subject of numerous memes and remixes. The video features a woman being asked if people say she looks like Beyoncé. She responds to the question by stating that people "usually say she looks like Shalissa," which is her name.
Origin
On December 1st, 2014, the Vine[1] account gasstation pranks 313 posted the original video. In the clip, a person offscreen person asks a woman if people tell her she looks like Beyoncé. The woman responds, "Nah, they usually tell me a look like Shalissa." The unseen person asks, "Who the fuck is that?" She answers, "Me nigga."
Within five years, the Vine has been received more than 1.1 million likes, 738,000 revines and 91.4 million loops (mirror below).
Spread
Following the release of the video, many online began remixing the video, placing the editing the clip into various different videos. For example, on December 17th, YouTuber Pop Vids posted a compilation of Shalissa remixes. The post received more than 24,000 views in five years (shown below, left). On January 20th, 2015, YouTuber Masked posted a series of remix videos from Vine. The post received more than 628,000 views in four years (shown below, right).
On April 3rd, 2018, Twitter [2] user @ahmzzd responded to a tweet about Beyoncé looking like the singer of Destiny's Child with "Nah she usually look like shalissa." The post received more than 135,000 retweets and 422,000 likes in one year (shown below).
