About
S(he's) Bro(ken) is a variation of the phrase "she's broken," which uses brackets or parentheses to highlight the words "he's Ken." The phrase went viral on Twitter (X) in April 2023, as part of an ironic meme referencing Barbie plot. The catchphrase is inspired by the s(he) be(lie)ve meme.
Origin
One of the earliest mentions of the "S(he's) Bro(ken)" phrase was posted on March 18th, 2011, by Urban Dictionary[1] user mydria, who added a definition for the phrase, interpreted both as "she's broken" and "he's ok".

On April 5th, 2023, X[2] user @thatbmanguy uploaded a still image from the Barbie in which Barbie (Margot Robbie) is looking at Ken (Ryan Gosling) paired with the caption "S(he's) Bro(ken)". The post (shown below) amassed over 11 million views and 526,000 likes in five months.
Spread
The tweet quickly went viral, being reposted on several meme pages and receiving other variations on social media. For instance, on July 28th, 2023, Reddit[3] user u/VernuxYT posted a version of the "S(he's) Bro(ken)" meme featuring Peach from the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and Street Fighter's Ken. The post (shown below, left) garnered over 1,900 likes and 52 comments in two months. On August 4th, 2023, X[4] user @riddlerpie posted a fanart of Barbie and Ken paired with the caption "S(he's) Bro(ken)", which amassed over 203,000 views and 15,900 likes in a month.
Billie Eilish's "sHE's brOKen"
On August 1st, 2015, American singer Billie Eilish posted the song "sHE's brOKen"[5] on SoundCloud. Within four years, the song has received more than 2.4 million plays, 57,000 favorites and 2,000 reblogs (has since been deleted).
Four years later, after the resurgence of the S[he] Be[lie]ve[d] meme, on March 30th, 2019, X[6] user @neverhadit99 posted a screen capture of the YouTube page for the song, showcasing the comments to the song in which commenters marveled at the title. The post received more than 11,000 retweets and 62,000 likes in less than two weeks (shown below, left).
