About
Shining Spiral Shit (Japanese: シャイニングスパイラルウンコ, Shining Spiral Unko, abbr. SSU) is a catchphrase coming from phonetic translations in "Heavenly Star", a song for PlaystationPotable's puzzle game LuminesII[1] released by Q entertainment in 2006. It was written by a music and visual project Genki Rockets[2] organized by Japanese game desinger Tetsuya Mizuguchi[3], and nominated for the best song category at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.[4]
In the middle of 2008, a glitch ocurred on the daily popular video chart in the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND), and it accidentally led a cult following from Japanese internet users to the song, who were addicted to the phonetic translation lyrics coined by comments in the official music video on NND.
Origin
The music video for "Heavenly Star" was uploaded to NND not only by a user in July 2007[5], but also by the official in November of that year[6] as the part of a partnership campaign of NND and Japanese recording company AVEX, NND's largest stockholder where Genki Rockets had been belonged to in those days. And the phonetic translation line "Shining Spiral Shit" had been mentioned in both of videos in before, but it was a minor in-joke.
On June 10th, 2008. NND's daily popular video chart occurred a glitch of displaying video rankings not by popularity but by alphabetical order of video's ID.[7] In this accident, top 100 in the chart were hijacked by AVEX's official videos since those were given IDs beginning from "ax", different from that of usual NND videos beginning from "sm" or "nm". And becausee the video ranked into the 1st place by this glitch was "Heavenly Star", it forced to become the target of criticism against the glitch, and drew much negative attention.
Meanwhile, it also made many NND users be inspired by that silly one liner. Then they quickly created the complete version of funny phonetic translation lyrics on the floating comments of the video on the same day.
Editor's Note: NND's video which was given the phonetic translation lyrics is edited version into 2 and a half minutes. So the lyrics for the latter part doesn't exist.

Interpretation
- Both "Wewewe", "Wei" and "Weeeei" are Japanese internet slang meaning "Yeah" or "lol".
- "Vibe(rators)", "Lotion" and "Anal" are familiar adopted English words in Japanese language, which are usually used in sexual context.
- "Ah-!" is the representative moaning voice in Japanese gay porn memes: A Midsummer Night's Lewd Dream and Billy Herrington / Gachimuchi Remixes
Spread
By the help of NND's floating comment feature working like subtitles, the lyrics of "Shining Spiral Shit" immediately spread to the whole over the web site. This story was soon summarized into a video posted on the following day.[10] Then, the video finally had gathered more than 30 thousands comments of praising the silly lyrics within that year, a single service website "ShiningSpriral.com"[11] was launched, and even niconico staffs showed an approval to the song in their blog posts.[12]
In addtion, dozens of parodies for the music video[13] were created under the influence of this MAD videos titled "Tokachi's Shining Spiral Shit"[14] by Wakamura-P, the famous creator in THE iDOLM@STER meme (shown below). And this weird popularity among NND users has put this song into many niconico medleys including "The 7 colors of Nico Nico Douga".[15]
However, all comments on the video was hidden when avex launched its official channel on NND in December of that year.[16] There is nothing left of the frenzy in the video.
