About
Sir, That's My Emotional Support is a snowclone popular on Tumblr reading "Sir, that's my emotional support X" in which X is a humorous animal or abstract concept. The snowclone parodies conversations with TSA agents attempting to say the user can't have their animal with them on planes by insisting it is an emotional support animal.
Origin
The snowclone may have been inspired by a January 2018 viral story about a person's failed attempt to bring an "emotional support peacock" on an airplane.[2] On May 23rd, 2018, Tumblr user cathugging[1] made a post that read "Sir, that's my emotional support lobster," gaining over 51,000 notes (shown below).
Spread
The post spread after user papa-manatee[3] added a GIF from Persona 5 to it. It was copied on /r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns[4] and gained over 240 points (shown below, left). In the ensuing months, many other Tumblr users made the joke with various other characters. For example, Tumblr user the-black-backed-gull made a joke with Lord of the Rings that gained over 5,000 notes (shown below, right).
Additional popular posts in the snowclone include a post by tidecallerprincess that gained over 21,000 notes (shown below, left) and a post by twunkgambit that gained over 17,000 notes (shown below, right).
