About
Did You Know Gaming? is a YouTube channel and blog focusing on trivia for some popular video games, video game franchises, video game characters, and other related content. The channel's videos come out as part of the Normal Boots network of creators and have featured hosts from that network as well as other popular YouTubers.
History
Did You Know Gaming? was launched by Shane Gill on May 14th, 2012.[1] Gill was inspired by Facebook groups which shared trivia about various video games. The site started as a blog[2] with its video content also released on YouTube. Initially, the blog would present facts in the form of image macros (examples shown below).
The channel's first video covered facts about Pokémon. It was hosted by WeeklyTubeShow and gained over 4.2 million views (shown below, left). The second video, hosted by JonTron gained over 4.6 million views (shown below, right).
The channel was a quick success, gaining over 200,000 Facebook likes in two months, and amassing over 2.1 million subscribers in six years.[3] When Normal Boots relaunched in 2014, Did You Know Gaming? was added to their network. In 2017, the channel announced a spin-off series called "Region Locked," which covered games that never had international releases. They've also made a series called "Did You Know Gaming? Extra" which covered topics normally outside the purview of the regular series.
Popular content creators and YouTube personalities to appear on the channel include Arin Hanson, Super Best Friends Play, Projared, and many others.
Reputation
The channel has been widely praised online. After its launch, The Huffington Post[4] covered it in a list of "7 Sites You Should Be Wasting Time On." The channel's video on Doctor Who (shown below) was covered by Nerdist[5] and Game Informer.[6]
