About

FitGirl Repacks, also known as FitGirl Repack, is a well-known website that distributes cracked and pirated video games, which have been "repacked" or compressed so that they may be downloaded and shared on a wider scale. Despite distributing cracked games, FitGirl does not crack them herself and instead uses existing installers and files, repacking them to smaller sizes. The site's creator, FitGirl, is commonly associated with the titular lead from the 2001 French comedy film Amélie, portrayed by French actress Audrey Tautou, which she uses as a mascot. Additionally, her packs are typically accompanied by the song "Solo" by RiveR, which some refer to as "The Piracy Anthem."

FitGirl Repacks started sometime in 2012 and has since gained widespread praise from the pirating community, particularly for the small file sizes and safety of the distributed software. In the 2020s, FitGirl became the subject of numerous memes, which commonly reference Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) and include images of the character, especially the image of her holding up a spoon from the movie.

History

FitGirl is a Russian-born repacker who began compressing games sometime around 2012, initially to build a personal offline collection and share with friends.[1] Upon noticing that her own repacks were smaller in size than those publicly available, she uploaded her repacks to several Russian torrent trackers, starting with a copy of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions.[1] The uploads were received positively, prompting FitGirl to continue.

The official FitGirl Repacks site was founded and launched on July 6th, 2016. As she continued honing her skills, FitGirl came to be known for her ability to attain lossless compression, as well as her dedication to repacking, which has earned her a dedicated following.[1]

FitGirl Repacks famously uses the likeness of French actress Audrey Tautou as the character Amélie Poulain from the 2011 film of the same name to represent herself, causing the character to become closely associated with the repacker.

Due to the prevalence of the song "Solo" by RiveR in her packs, a remix of "Tsuki Sayu Yoru" by Hiromitsu Agatsuma, the song is sometimes called "The Piracy Anthem" online. On April 9th, 2016, the YouTube channel The Phoenix uploaded the song, referencing FitGirl and pirating in the description, receiving over 4.3 million views, 109,000 likes and 8,600 comments in 10 years. Many of the comments reference FitGirl and pirating as well.

Online Presence

According to TorrentFreak,[2] FitGirl is "arguably the most famous videogame 'repacker' in the world," with tens of millions of visits per month.

As her profile and site continued to gain traction over the years, fans of Fitgirl began using clips and pictures from the film Amélie for piracy-related memes.

For example, on September 19th, 2024, TikTok [3] user @uncle.zemo.gaming posted a video compiling clips of Amélie with a caption reading, "Pov Pc gamers when budget is low and new game drops." The video received 2.2 million views and 130,300 likes in less than two years.

On December 27th, 2024, Redditor Ok-Independent483 posted a meme that utilized several scenes from the film set to the song "Solo" by RiveR to the /r/PeterExplainsTheJoke[4] subreddit, asking how the character was related to gaming. The post received over 4,300 upvotes and 100 comments in a year and a half, with the top comment stating, "The piracy repacker FitGirl uses the picture of Amelie holding a spoon as an avatar."
