Gripping Food With Force, also known as @GrippingFood, is a series of social media and message board accounts in which people share photographs of people squeezing food with their bare hands.

History

On July 3rd, 2020, the @GrippingFood Twitter[1] account featured its first photograph, a person grabbing cereal from a bowl of milk and cereal. The tweet received more than 8,600 likes and 2,000 retweets in less than three months (shown below).

Two days later, Redditor 1_The_Zucc_1 shared the photograph as the first post in the /r/grippingfoodwithforce[2] subreddit. Days later, on July 8th, the Instagram [3] account @grippingfoodswithforce launched and shared the image. The post received more than 695 likes in less than three months. On July 28th, a Facebook [4] page for the photos launched.

Over the next few months, the accounts shared images from users of people grabbing foods with their hands. For example, on August 25th, the account shared a version that featured several dogs.[5] It received more than 16,000 likes and 2,700 retweets in less than one month (shown below, left).

On Instagram, people began posting multiple photographs, showing the act of squeezing the food through slides (example below, right).

In August 2020, the Takeout published a report on the accounts.
