One Million Checkboxes is a website created by X user @itseieio, also known as Nolen. The website is comprised of 1 million checkboxes that can be ticked or unticked by users. Discussions about the website spread soon after it was launched in late June 2024, with users making animations, drawings and collective art on the website, not unlike /r/place on Reddit.

Origin

On June 26th, 2024, X^[1] user @itseieio made a post on X about a website they created, which they call "One Million Checkboxes Dot Com."^[7] According to the post, the site has "one million checkboxes on it" and "checking a box checks it for everyone." The post gathered over 2 million views, 24,000 likes and 3,000 retweets in a day (seen below).

Also on June 26th, Nolen posted a video^[4] showing activity on the site, adding, "also my server is going to die." The post gathered over 2,700 likes in a day (seen below).

The site was posted to Reddit's /r/InternetIsBeautiful^[6] on June 26th, 2024, by Redditor /u/Iamsodarncool, where it gathered over 2,300 upvotes in a day.

Various X users quoted the aforementioned post to share what they saw or made on @itseieio's site, including a post by X^[2] user @VeryBadLlama, which read, "15 years ago the main point of going on the Internet was to get StumbleUpon to show you 400 websites exactly as weird as this one," and gathered over 6,000 likes in a day (seen below, left).

Also on June 26th, X^[3] user @mehori's post about pro-check and uncheck users gathered over 3,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).
