Small Dads is a photoshop meme that involves editing a family portrait photograph to make the father appear much smaller in size in comparison to the rest of the group.
Origin
Redditor afdlips submitted a post[1] on February 7th, 2013, declaring his newest hobby of shrinking the fathers in various family photos. Afdlips also provided an Imgur album featuring several examples (shown below) in the post, which received over 26,500 up votes and 880 comments within 12 days.
Spread
On the same day, Redditor afdlips submitted a new post[3] with Small Dad images that had been requested by other Redditors, receiving over 9,400 up votes and 230 comments within 12 days. Also on February 7th, the /r/smalldads subreddit[4] was created for community curation and the viral content site BuzzFeed[6] highlighted several example images calling it “the hottest new Internet trend.” On February 8th, the Internet humor blog Sad and Useless[5] showcased several notable photoshops and Gawker[2] chronicled the series of Reddit posts from which the meme originated. Also on February 8th, additional examples from the series were reblogged by both Laughing Squid[7] and The Huffington Post.[8]
