Snoo

About
Snoo, also colloquially known as the Reddit Alien, is the mascot of the social news site Reddit, which is illustrated as a small creature with red eyes and a single antennae protruding from its head.
Origin
The Snoo was originally created by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and has stood as the mascot of the site since its initial launch on June 23rd, 2005.[1][2] It is displayed in many areas of the site, including the header and 404 pages.[3] The name "Snoo" is a derivative of 'Snew.com, an early name for Reddit prior to its launch (shown below).[8]

Spread
Nearly all sub-Reddits use a custom rendition of Snoo for their logo. On May 30th, 2010, the subreddit /r/Snoo[4] was created for discussions about the mascot. On May 29th, 2012, the /r/bizarrosnoo[5] subreddit was launched for more peculiar depictions of the Reddit alien. On January 28th, 2014, the /r/snoospotting[9] subreddit was created for photographs of Snoo art found in various real world locations. On October 20th, the /r/snoovatars[6] subreddit was launched for users to share their customized Snoo avatar creations. In January 2015, Reddit unveiled a new perk for those with paid memberships on the social news sites, allowing Reddit Gold users to create custom versions of the Reddit alien (shown below). In addition, the official Reddit Store sells Snoo merchandize, including figurines, dolls and T-shirts.[7]
