About

Spider-Man's "Noooo," also known as Spider-Man Grabs for Dust, refers to a scene from 1994 Spider-Man animated series in which Spider-Man grabs for a clone of his girlfriend Mary Jane as she turns into steam. In July 2019, the scene gained popularity as a reaction on Instagram.

Origin

On October 31st, 1997, episode eight "The Return of Hydro-Man, Part 2" of animated TV series Spider-Man premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the episode, Spider-Man witnesses a clone of his girlfriend Mary Jane turn into a cloud of steam as he reaches out to her.



Spread

On July 16th, 2019, Twitter user @saltydkdan posted the first meme based on the scene,[7] with the video gainin over 190,000 views and the tweet receiving over 4,000 retweets and 19,600 likes in two weeks (shown below).


On July 17th, 2019, Twitter and Instagram user @cashgodmeme posted another meme based on the scene to their social media accounts, with the Instagram post accumulating over 4,300 views and 1,900 likes in two weeks (shown below).[2][3] The meme was reposted by a number of popular meme pages on Instagram.


In the following days, the video gained a notable presence on Instagram as a reaction, with notable posts made by users kingyandhi[4] and amocoe.[5] On July 25th, 2019, Instagram user zetaxp made a greenscreen of the meme, prompting more edits based on the video to appear in the following days.[6]
