SpongeBob Missing Gary is a meme template that comes from the 2005 episode of SpongeBob SquarePants titled 'Have You Seen This Snail?'. the meme template shows a crying, sad SpongeBob sitting on his bed looking fondly at Gary's bowl and newspaper bed. The image is part of the Gary Come Home song that the episode is most known for.
Origin
The episode titled 'Have You Seen This Snail?' was released on November 11th, 2005, after an extensive ad campaign by the network promoting the plot and SpongeBob's musical number. The song itself was uploaded to YouTube on January 25th, 2009 by the channel bleachcraze101[1], where it went on to net over 15 million views in 13 years (shown below).
In October of 2012, the Tumblr account So-Relatable.Tumblr[2] uploaded 'Relatable Post #2965' which was the picture of SpongeBob on his bed crying while the text 'Sometimes your parents' criticism just goes too far..' which was then reblogged to several other accounts on Tumblr (shown below).

On June 28th, 2013, the Imgur account Oolalina[3] uploaded a compilation of 'Useless Facts' with one of them using the SpongeBob Missing Gary template image as part of a .gif, in which it declared that most people don't talk to people that used to be considered one of their best friends (shown below).
On June 30th, 2022, the Redditor Tayi13[4] uploaded the static image of SpongeBob being sad while making a joke about Pride Month saying that June 30th is the last day to be LGBTQ, earning over 670 upvotes in 13 hours (shown below).
