The album was announced on March 10th, 2024 in Pheonix, Arizona during a listening party for West and Ty Dolla $ign's album Vultures 2. Prior to this, North featured on the song "TALKING" from Vultures 1.

On the night of March 10th, 2024, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign hosted a listening party for their upcoming album under the moniker Y$, Vultures 2, a sequel to their February 2024 album Vultures 1. At one point during the listening party, West's daughter North West announced that she was working on her debut album, titled Elementary School Dropout (clip shown below). The album's name is a reference to Kanye's debut album The College Dropout.

Online Presence

The announcement gained widespread social media and mainstream media attention, with publications including TMZ,[1] Daily Mail[2] and The Cut[3] reporting on it on March 11th, 2024. That same day, the @PopBase X[4] account shared the announcement, resulting in mixed reactions from commenters (examples shown below).
