Goth Crocs refer to a pair of black Crocs brand clogs that are customized with studs, spikes and chains attached.

History

On March 21st, 2019, Instagram ^[1] user @garbage_b0y posted an image of the Crocs. The post received more than 900 reactions in one week (shown below).

The following week, the Crocs were post on Etsy ^[4] in the "HeavyCreamStore." They described the product as "Punk spike crocs to make your feet into the final form rare Pokémon they were meant to be."

Online Reaction

On March 24th, 2019, an image of the Crocs were posted on the /r/ATBGE subreddit ^[2] by Redditor ghosted_. The post received more than 33,000 points (96% upvoted) and 480 comments in less than one week (shown below, left).

The following day, Twitter ^[3] user @brodymckeegan tweeted the image with the caption "I’m not exaggerating when I say these are the hardest shoes I’ve ever seen." The post received more than 31,000 retweets and 114,000 likes in less than one week (shown below, center).

Over the next week, others made jokes about the shoes. For example, on March 26th, Twitter^[5] user @probablysatann "therapist: goth crocs aren't real, they can't hurt you" (shown below, right).

On March 27th, 2019, Twitter^[8] user @diavolowo tweeted the crocs next to a picture of high-heeled Crocs. They captioned the post, "She was fearless, and crazier than him. She was his queen, and God help anyone who disrespected his queen." The tweet received more than 27,000 retweets and 76,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Several media outlets covered the shoes, including Alternative Press,^[6] The Daily Dot ^[7] and more.
