Isekai Quartet is a chibi-style anime crossover between isekai light novel and anime series KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. A parody of the isekai genre and its four prominent installments, Isekai Quartet has spawned numerous memes, primarily in /r/Animemes community.

History

On April 9th, 2019, the first episode "Come Together! Quartet" of chibi-style anime series Isekai Quartet (Isekai Karutetto) premiered in Japan.^[1] The series serves as a parody crossover of four light novel installments published by Kadokawa Corporation: KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. The characters of these series, all protagonists of isekai genre who were once magically transported from human world into a fantasy world and forced to adapt, are once again teleported to a new world where they attend the same high school.

The series are created by Studio Puyukai and were announced to run for a total of 12 episodes.

Reception

As of May 6th, 2019, Isekai Quartet maintained a 7.56 score on MyAnimeList based on 14,500 votes.^[2] On IMDb, the series had a 8.0 rating based on 30 submitted votes.^[3]

Fandom

Following the release of the series, Isekai Quartet gained significant presence in memes, primarily in /r/Animemes subreddit. For example, on April 9th, Redditor sharke0000 posted a meme based on the series which gained over 10,400 upvotes in one month (shown below, top left).^[4] On April 10th, Redditor AcX999 made a post which gained over 10,200 upvotes in the same period (shown below, top right).^[5]
