Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a 2018 Spider-Man video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. The game's release date is October 20, 2023, with discussions about the game's mechanics, features, and graphics erupting online the week prior to its release. The game's "fast travel" mechanism, MJ's failed Akira Slide, and Sandman as an antagonist were popular topics of conversation in October 2023. The game also allowed players to point at each other when they encountered other Spider-Men as a homage to the Spider-Man Pointing.
History
On September 9th, 2021, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was officially announced by Insomniac Games at the PlayStation Showcase event. The game was created and directed by Bryan Intihar and Ryan Smith, with Yuri Lowenthal, Nadji Jeter, and Tony Todd voicing Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Venom, respectively. [1]
The "first look" at the new video game was posted to PlayStation's[2] YouTube channel on September 10th, 2021, where it gathered over 30 million views in two years (seen below, left). A "Story Trailer" posted[3] on July 1st, 2023 gathered over 15 million views in two months (seen below, right).
Online Reactions
On October 16th, 2023, X user @ReverendClown made a post that read, "White woman ruined the Akira slide it’s joever," gathering over 82,000 likes in two days. The post quoted a video of the character MJ failing to do the Akira Slide.

Initial reactions to the game prior to its release focused on particular scenes and in-game features. An October 17th, 2023 post by X[4] user @ayeejuju showed them joking about how their PS4 would probably explode if it tried to run the new Spider-Man game. The post gathered over 40,000 likes in a day (seen below).

On October 17th, X[5] user @kirawontmiss made a post about the game's "fast travel" feature, saying that using it to play Spider-Man is redundant, and gathering over 100,000 likes in a day (seen below).

Also on October 17th, X[7] user @ComicGirlAshley made a post using a still of Sandman, gathering over 6,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).
