Watchmen (TV Series) is an American superhero television series based on DC Comics title of the same name. While the series features characters and situations similar to the comic, it will follow a separate story arc.
History
On October 1st, 2015, Deadline[1] reported that HBO had begun "preliminary discussions" for a Watchmen television series. The network said in a statement, "Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred, but we have no additional information and no deals are in place."
Two years later, on September 19th, 2017, HBO officially greenlit a pilot for the series Damon Lindelof, producer of Lost and HBO's The Leftovers, posted a statue from the series on Instagram. [2] He captioned the photo, "Day one." The post indicated that he would be showrunning on the series and received more than 3,300 likes in about two years (shown below). The following day, HBO confirmed that they had greenlit the pilot by Lindelof.[3]
On May 22nd, 2018, Lindelof posted an open letter to fans who had been openly critical of Lindelof's involvement in the show. The post received more than 8,200 likes (shown below).
On May 8th, 2019, HBO released the first teaser for the series. Within three months, the video received more than 5.2 million views (shown below, left).
Two months later on, on July 20th, the network released a full trailer for the series, which was announced to premiere in October 2019. Within one week, the video received more than 5.8 million views (shown below, right).
