Summerfag is a term used by users on the site 4chan as underage users who post on 4chan instead of going to school. The term is often used as a scapegoat for bad posts, especially in highly populated boards such as /b/.

Origin

Although the original use of the term is unknown, it is likely the term came from /b/ in the late 2000's as an insult for bad posters (or shitposters) assumed to be underage in the Summer. A advice animal for the phrase originated in 2010, and created multiple derivatives.

Spread

As shown by archives of the site, the term is a sitewide phrase. Although /b/, an archiveless board cannot show interest, other boards such as /pol/ which has 835 examples of the term "Summerfag" on their archive^[1] and /tv/ who has 766 examples of the phrase. The phrase is less populated in smaller boards, as shown by /hr/^[3] and /trv/^[4] which only has only a little over 20 results of the phrase on their archive combined. The boards where the phrase was most populated was /mu/ which has the phrase posted a little under 2000 times, with the majority of the usage being in 2013 ^[2], and /v/ who's archive came up with 5570 results of the term.^[5]
