Teehee the Meme Fairy: A Forgotten 4chan Relic

About

Teehee the Meme Fairy is an obscure character meme that originated on 4chan’s /r9k/ board in late December 2014. Depicted as a crudely drawn pink creature with curly antennae and a wide green smile, the character spoke in a sing-song tone, ending each line with “Teehee~.”

original thread

Though it never broke into mainstream meme culture, Teehee briefly gained a cult following of anons roleplaying as the character, posting messages like “I’m Teehee, the Meme Fairy~ Teehee~.” Later commentary framed the character as a “mask meme,” symbolizing anger and cynicism hidden beneath forced cheerfulness.

Origin
The first known posts of Teehee appeared on /r9k/ in December 2014, accompanied by crude illustrations and fairy-like dialogue. One early post declared:

“I am a meme fairy~ I am here to be your new meme for 2015! Teehee~”

On December 21st, 2014, one anon asked what the Meme Fairy was supposed to represent. Another replied:

“Someone who is angry and hateful and tries to hide it under silly and cheerful behavior. Kind of like a counterpart to Leonardo.”

This explanation solidified Teehee as a mask meme--a sugary persona disguising hostility, resonating with the tone of /r9k/.

Spread
In late December 2014, Teehee developed a small following as anons began roleplaying the character. Threads filled with posts ending in “Teehee~,” often accompanied by crude pink face edits, rainbow-cry variants, or anime reaction images with “teehee” captions.

By early 2015, Teehee briefly crossed over to /s4s/ (Shit 4chan Says), where anons created a “TeeHee Thread” dedicated to spamming “teehee~” and experimenting with variants. Despite this, Teehee never spread beyond niche 4chan use and quickly faded.
