Terry Bogard's "Are You Okay?" refers to an iconic line delivered by Fatal Fury and later Super Smash Brothers Ultimate fighter Terry Bogard before hitting his devastating "Buster Wolf" attack. The catchphrase has become an iconic part of the character, as well as a joke within the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate fandom.

Origin

In Garou: Mark of the Wolves, released in November of 1999, Terry Bogard was given the "Buster Wolf" attack, a devastating command grab and punch. As he charges across the stage, he asks, "Are you okay?" before delivering the Buster Wolf, screaming the attack as he lands it (example shown below). The line started as an inside joke and was inspired by a child asking director Yasuyuki Oda "Are you okay?" after he went down a water ride.^[1]

Terry was added to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate on November 6th, 2019, and was also given his Buster Wolf attack, along with his iconic "Are you okay?" line (shown below).

Spread

The line was a small meme among Fatal Fury fans prior to Terry's inclusion in Smash Ultimate. For example, in May of 2016, a Hail Hydra edit featuring Terry circulated on Tumblr^[4] (shown below, left). An Impact font meme featuring Terry from Fatal Fury made by MemeKingRevived appeared on imgflip^[5] in 2015 (shown below, right).

Terry's inclusion in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate made "Are You Okay?" much more widespread, becoming a meme within the Smash fandom shortly after Terry was announced to be joining Smash in September 2019. On September 5th, @PandaGlobal^[3] posted a meme about Terry in the game, gaining over 500 retweets and 2,100 likes (shown below, left). On November 8th, 2019, a Redditor in /r/SmashBrosUltimate^[2] posted a Miles Morales Says Hey meme inspired by Terry's line, gaining over 5,600 points (shown below, right).
