That Wasn't Me, That Was Patricia

"That Wasn't Me, That Was Patricia" refers to a reaction image marcos of the character Kevin Wendell Crumb in the film in the 2017 horror thriller Split. Online, a screenshot of Crumb saying the line "that wasn't me, that was Patricia," which has been used as the punchline to jokes about denying responsibility for a social infraction despite overwhelming evidence. However, the line does not appear in the film.
Origin
On September 26th, 2016, the film Split premiered in the United States.[1] In the film, James Macavoy plays Crumb, a man with a psychological condition that causes him to have 23 different personalities, including the personality known as Patricia (clip below).
On February 10th, 2017, the since-deleted Twitter account @Dory tweeted an image from the scene with the caption "hears & sees what drunk me did* 'that wasn't me that was patricia.'" The post was later shared by the account @FunnyPicsDepot, where it received more than 4,000 retweets and 9,200 likes in two years (shown below).[2]
Spread
The following day, the image was shared by the Instagram [3] account @cohmedy, where it received more than 100,000 likes in about two and a half years.
Several months later, on April 10th, 2017, iFunny [4] user kaiden shared a version with the caption "When you look back at your cringey texts from the night before." The post received more than 81,000 reactions in about two years (shown below, left).
Shortly after, on June 17th, Instagram[5] user @pretty52 shared a version of the meme with the caption "When you accidentally shag all his friends." The post received more than 1,700 likes in less than two years (shown below, center).
On July 31st, a template of the meme was shared on the website MemeGenerator (example below, right).[6]
