About
The Lorax Leaving refers to a series of memes on TikTok using a scene from the 2012 film The Lorax where the Lorax sends the region's native animals away and then floats into the sky. The memes feature captions and object labels about a group of characters walking away and abandoning a subject for a given reason, ended by the Lorax floating away, who is often simply labeled, "the Lorax leaving." The videos, often set to the song "Christmas Kids" by ROAR, became popularized on TikTok in April 2023.
Origin
In the latter half of the 2012 animated film The Lorax, there is a scene where the Lorax sends the native animals of the region off to find a new home after it is made uninhabitable. As the animals walk away, the Lorax floats off into the sky (shown below).
On April 15th, 2023, TikToker[1] @agentmangoman posted a meme using the scene, set to "Christmas Kids" by ROAR, captioned, "Pov you took the joke too far." The animals are labeled "everyone getting mad at you" and when the Once-ler removes his hat, it is labeled, "realizing it wasn't that funny." The Lorax is then shown, simply labeled "The Lorax" then "the Lorax leaving" as he floats off. The video gained over 4 million views in six days (shown below).

The meme became increasingly popular on TikTok over the following days. On April 15th, TikToker[2] @joeseph_tipa posted a version that gained over 420,000 views in six days (shown below, left). On April 18th, TikToker[3] @randymarshswife posted a version of the mem that gained over a million views in three days (shown below, right).
