About

The Proper Way to End Your Film is an exploitable scene taken from the ending of the 1985 Philippines action film Blood Debts.[1] The scene has received several fan edits and fan recreations.

Origin

On April 30th, 2011, SyntheNeko reuploaded the scene to YouTube after an unknown user deleted it. The reuploaded scene (shown below) has received over 7 million views in over eleven years. In the scene, Mark Collins is shot by the film's villain, Bill. After falling to the ground, Mark pulls out a flare pistol that was hidden in his shirt sleeve and fires it at Bill, which causes Bill's entire body to explode.

Before the explosion finishes, however, a message (shown below) appears on the screen along with stock music playing in the background, which is followed by the film credits:

mark collins, age 45, gave
himself up to the authorities
after the incident. he is now
serving a life sentence

The earliest known parody was a Source Filmmaker edit posted on August 4th, 2012 by YouTuber AirplaneRandy, gaining over 30,000 views in ten years (shown below).

Spread

The scene saw multiple edits over the years, and particularly in the 2020s, on Twitter and YouTube. On December 10th, 2020, Twitter user @SpaceHunter_M posted an edit using Lupin III footage, gaining over 470 likes in two years (shown below, top). On June 13th, 2022, Twitter user @NinoCappucino_ posted an example using Fire Emblem: Three Houses footage, gaining over 220 retweets and 12,000 likes in seven months (shown below, bottom).

On July 24th, YouTuber somespoiledfanboy posted a compilation of the meme, gaining over 24,000 views in three and a half years (shown below, right).
