Theodore Is Gay refers to a viral video of Alvin and the Chipmunks character Theodore strapped into a femur breaker while Alvin describes how Theodore is gay and he hates him so he's going to kill him. The video is taken from the "Alvin and the Femur Breaker (remake)" Roblox game. It was originally posted to TikTok in October 2021 and became a widespread lip-dub sound on the platform.

Origin

On August 8th, 2021, TikToker^[4] @0r.o.m.e.o.0 posted a video playing "Alvin and the Femur Breaker (remake)," a custom Roblox^[2] game where you can put an Alvin and the Chipmunks character through a femur breaker torture device. In the video, Alvin walks around the device as Theodore is strapped to it and talks about how he hates gay people because Dave told him he should. Because of this, he's going to kill Theodore using the femur breaker. The video gained over 80,000 views in three months (shown below).

On October 1st, 2021, TikToker^[1] @rabba._ posted a similar video, gaining over 2.7 million views in just under two months (shown below). On October 12th the video was uploaded to YouTube^[3] titled "Theodore is gay," gaining over 9,700 views in a month.

The original sound for the video became popularized in lip-dub videos and as a general backing track on the platform throughout October, leading into November 2021, inspiring over 62,000 videos by November 30th. On October 2nd, TikToker @polar.j posted a video of some bad-tasting pasta over the sound, gaining over 5.1 million views in two months (shown below, left). On November 8th, TikToker @lydiasmh posted a video Facemorphing Theodore with Ed Sheeran, gaining over 3.8 million views in three weeks (shown below, right). These are the two highest engagement videos using the sound as of November 30th, 2021.
