About

This Barbie Takes X is a phrasal template and exploitable meme format that originated from a viral July 2023 tweet by Twitter user @gabby_frostin which read, "This Barbie Takes Zoloft" (an antidepressant drug). The phrase is inspired by the 2023 Barbie movie marketing catchphrase "This Barbie Is," which was turned into a meme in which the item "taken" is replaced by other things, typically antidepressants and medications related to mental health issues like anxiety, ADHD, etc.

Origin

On July 25th, 2023, Twitter user @gabby_frost[1] posted a collection of images featuring the phrases "This Barbie Takes Zolotf, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Vyvanse" most of which are antidepressant medications. The post (shown below) references the 2023 Barbie film's marketing artwork, which garnered over 162,000 likes and 39,300 retweets in a day.

On July 26th, the creator then explained how she created the "Barbie logo aesthetic" for the antidepressant memes via her TikTok account. The post (shown below) garnered roughly 860 plays and 120 likes in a day.
