This Is a Crafting Table refers to a series of memes based on a scene from A Minecraft Movie in which actor Jack Black's character Steve shows Garrett Garrison (Jason Momoa) and Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen) how to use a crafting table to craft a sword. The scene was first shown during a September 2024 Minecraft livestream and first became the subject of memes in late March 2025 surrounding the film's release date. In April 2025, an image from the scene of Steve standing at the table became an exploitable meme format in which the crafting table is replaced with something else.

Origin

On September 28th, 2024, the official Minecraft YouTube^[1] channel hosted a Minecraft Live event, garnering over 4.6 million views in seven months. At the 18:30 timestamp, a clip from A Minecraft Movie in which Steve shows Garrett, played by Jason Momoa and Henry, played by Sebastian Hansen, how to use the crafting table by crafting a sword, introducing the table by saying, "This is a crafting table."

Spread

The scene garnered viral spread over the following months, inspiring memes. On September 29th, 2024, a screenshot of the scene was posted to the subreddit /r/shittymoviedetails,^[2] garnering over 1,700 upvotes in seven months.

On April 5th, 2025, X^[3] user @cadeottonburner posted a photo of five Zyn pouches arranged on top of nine beer cans laid out in a similar pattern to a crafting table, writing, "THIS… is a crafting table," garnering over 6,600 likes in three days.

On April 6th, X^[4] user @VonListVanguard posted an edit of a screenshot of the scene in which the crafting table has been replaced by a Pack-a-Punch machine from the Call of Duty series' zombies game mode, garnering over 80,000 likes and 4,600 reposts in two days.

Later that day, X^[5] user @trosdot posted another version of the meme that gained over 2.000 likes in two days.

On April 7th, 2025, X^[6] user @LukeCB14 posted a version of the meme replacing the table with a prime engram from Destiny 2, garnering over 3,000 likes in a day.

That same day, X^[7] user @vbuckscurrency posted a version of the meme that replaced the crafting table with a V-buck, the currency from Fortnite, garnering over 23,000 likes in a day.

Later on April 7th, X^[8] user @TheDailyLBP posted a version referencing Little Big Planet that gained over 8,000 likes in a day.
