About

"This Little Maneuver's Gonna Cost Us 51 Years" is a memorable quote uttered by the character Cooper in the 2014 science fiction film Interstellar. A screenshot of Cooper saying the line has been used in a series of reaction image macro to express great consequence.

Origin

On November 7th, 2014, Warner Bros. studios released the science fiction film Interstellar in the United States.[1] In the film, the crew attempts to make up for a lack of fuel by using the blackhole Gargantua as a slingshot. However, due to how time occurs near a supermassive black hole "the Gargantua," Cooper (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey) tells the crew that it will cost them 51 years on Earth. He says, "Well, this little maneuver is gonna cost us 51 years!"

For some reason, when the main character should have died, he instead find himself in a weird 4D library and he is capable to use the books to communicate with earth and send his daughter who is now a brilliant scientist the message about what lies beyond the singularity. Turns out the weird library thing was the work of the "aliens", except is not aliens but far-future humans that can move in four dimensions. The future humans then send back the protagonist, and he wakes up in one of the giant ships they were able to build after they finally got anti-gravity and which are currently en-route to the third planet. His daughter is really old due to the time dilation fuckery making like 80 years or more pass outside of the influence of the black hole at this point, and the weird physics of the ships is because they might have a way to nullify gravity, but not one to create it, so they imitate gravity by making the ships cylindrical and spinning them, and using the centripetal force of the spinning to keep everything sticking to the walls as if it was gravity.
