Tom Hardy Screaming, also known as Tom Hardy Yelling, refers to a GIF from the 2018 movie Venom showing actor Tom Hardy as the character Eddie Brock in a hospital gown and screaming while morphing into Venom, an alien symbiote that has taken over his body. The GIF first appeared online in 2020 and is typically used to joke about being angry or frustrated about something and raging over it. The GIF is most prevalent on sites like Reddit and Twitter / X, where it is used as a reaction meme. The clip of Hardy is also notably used as the SCHIZO Twitch emote.

Origin

The film Venom was released on October 5th, 2018, featuring Tom Hardy in the leading role as Eddie Brock, a journalist who finds his body being taken over by an alien symbiote, named Venom. At one point in the film, Eddie visits the hospital to undergo an MRI, triggering a transformation into his Venom form.

The YouTube^[1] page Lucidus Gate Movie Clips reposted a clip of the scene on December 16th, 2018, in which Eddie Brock can be seen screaming in a hospital gown at the 1:02 timestamp. The video gathered over 300,000 likes in six years.

The earliest known use of the scene as a reaction GIF is a April 11th, 2020, post on Reddit's /r/TrueSTL^[2] by Redditor u/vtheawesome about the Elder Scrolls lore subreddit /r/TESlore, captioned, "r/teslore when someone suggests an unreliable narrator is unreliable." The post gathered over 1,300 upvotes in five years.

On December 12th, 2021, the meme was then uploaded to 7TV^[7] as an emote, named "SCHIZO," for Twitch by user hubbles, with over 61,000 channels using it as of July 2025. The SCHIZO emote was also uploaded to BetterTTV^[8] on March 11th, 2023.

On December 28th, 2022, Redditor u/coolapplebees11 posted a GIF of Tom Hardy screaming in his hospital bed while glitching into Venom to the subreddit /r/RiskofRain,^[3] gathering over 1,500 upvotes in three years.

On September 25th, 2023, X^[4] user @m0sstrx posted a GIF of Tom Hardy raging and turning into Venom in the MRI machine alongside a caption that read, "me trying not to use the 😭 emoji in every other sentence." The post gathered over 100,000 likes in two years.

On December 2nd, 2023, X^[5] user @M1das_OW2 tweeted, "Fortnite players seeing the coolest gameplay ever instead of the same stuff from 5 years ago," in response to complaints about the game adding new features. The post gathered over 36,000 likes in two years.

On June 29th, 2025, Redditor u/justatoaster0 posted the GIF of Tom Hardy screaming and turning into Venom on the /r/Persona5^[6] subreddit alongside a caption that read, "I’m playing P5 for the first time and I SWEAR TO GOD IF I HEAR 'BONAFIED MONA-FIED' ONE MORE TIME." The post gathered over 3,000 upvotes in two months.
