I Won't Forget You, Buddy refers to a scene from the 2024 superhero film Venom: The Last Dance in which the character Eddie Brock (played by actor Tom Hardy) reminisces about his companion and symbiote Venom, promising to never forget him, as the song "Memories" by Maroon 5 plays in the background. Online, the clip achieved virality as a reaction meme and video and GIF caption format.

On October 25th, 2024, the superhero film Venom: The Last Dance premiered.[1] In the final scene of the film, the character Eddie Brock, portrayed by Tom Hardy, reminisces about his time with the symbiote Venom, his friend and companion throughout the series, promising to never forget him as he smiles (scene shown below). During the scene, the song "Memories" by Maroon 5 plays.

The clip saw limited use in memes prior to December 2024. For example, on October 26th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @dalannnndan posted an edit using the clip that received over 218,000 likes in two months (shown below).

On December 12th, X[3] user @morpho_j used the clip to react to fake news about a film about the Marvel character Agent Venom having been canceled. The post (shown below) received over 320 reposts and 3,000 likes in one month.

Following the post, the clip saw more use as a caption format on X / Twitter through December 2024. For example, on December 22nd, 2024, X[4] user @ChiefofIsaac made a humorous post about tweleb @M1das_OW2 based on it that received over 230 reposts and 5,000 likes in two weeks.

On December 31st, 2024, X[5] user @Emerald101515 used the clip to say goodbye to the survival game Friday the 13th: The Game after online services were disabled for it. The post (shown below) garnered over 2.9 million views, 6,500 reposts and 80,000 likes in three days.

Following the post, the caption format saw viral spread on X / Twitter in late December 2024 and early January 2025.
