Track Pants Optical Illusion refers to a picture of a woman wearing track pants that went viral on social media after many Twitter saw the picture and mistakenly thought the woman had two extremely skinny legs.
Origin
On February 23rd, 2018, Twitter user @milanoysl[1] uploaded a picture of her showing off her outfit "combining horizontal and vertical stripes" (shown below). The tweet gained over 6,700 retweets and 40,000 likes, as well as over 870 replies, many of which were people responding to the tweet saying her track pants made it look like she had two extremely skinny legs.
Spread
Shortly after the post, many Twitter users responded saying they thought the track pants made it appear as though the woman had two very skinny legs. Twitter user @Y2SHAF quote-tweeted her with the comment, gaining over 140,000 retweets and 420,000 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @laviedeluxe responded similarly, gaining over 620 retweets and 8,600 likes (shown below, right).
@milanoysl took the fame in good humor, tweeting a photoshop which turned the track pants into two separate legs, gaining over 5,400 retweets and 23,000 likes (shown below, left). She also posted a screenshot of her Googling "how to handle fame" (shown below, right).
The moment was covered by multiple media outlets, including Today,[2] Teen Vogue,[3] and Bustle.[4]
