Trapped Doge or Release Me From Here refers to post-ironic memes in which Doge, photoshopped into an object or a precarious situation, rudely addresses an antagonistic individual with a demand to release him. Related to other Ironic Doge Memes, the format was circulated in /r/okbuddyretard subreddit in January 2019.
Origin
The earliest known usage of Trapped Doge was posted on December 13th, 2018 by iFunny user Doge_Archive[3]. The image features a piece of food that resembles doge. They captioned the post, "Where did it go wrong, Bethany?" The post received more than 780 upvotes in one month (shown below).
Spread
On January 4th, 2019, Redditor[1] ScootBooster to /r/okbuddyretard subreddit posted a variation of the Trapped Doge, which post gained more than 1,700 upvotes in two weeks.
In the following week the meme format in which Doge, usually photoshopped into a certain object, demanded immediate release from Karen, Veronica, Bethany or other antagonists, gained popularity in /r/okbuddyretard subreddit (notable examples shown below).
On January 11th, 2019, the meme format was banned[2] by the /r/okbuddyretard moderators due to overuse.
