Twomad's Soul Trapped in Overwatch or Twomad Haunting Overwatch refers to a series of memes that imagine the soul of YouTuber Twomad, who died from an opioid overdose while playing Overwatch 2 in early 2024, is trapped inside the video game. The memes imagine Twomad's soul haunting the game by causing bugs and its fate once the game's popularity fades, among other scenarios.

Origin

On February 13th, 2024, YouTuber Twomad died from an opioid overdose while playing Overwatch 2 in his Los Angeles Home.[1] As Twomad was a controversial figure due to past allegations made against him, the YouTuber's death became a viral subject of memes and jokes in the following days.

On February 14th, X[2] user @Nerd_Zara posted a GIF caption meme imagining Twomad's soul getting sucked into his copy of Overwatch after he died. The post (shown below) received over 1,100 reposts and 14,000 likes in one year.

The jokes about Twomad's soul getting trapped inside the game saw viral spread in the following days. For example, on February 15th, 2024, X[2] user @BonnieYear posted a caption meme based on the joke that received over 1,200 reposts and 16,000 likes in one year (shown below).


After a period of popularity in February and March 2024, the meme regained virality in December 2024 following the release of Overwatch competitor Marvel Rivals.

For example, on December 10th, 2024, X[3] user @M1das_OW2 posted a GIF caption meme imagining Twomad's soul disappearing together with Overwatch 2 servers, which received over 8,200 reposts and 110,000 likes in one month (shown below).
