Underground Transgender Mafia refers to a fake quote attributed by a satirical account to the British politician and Former Prime Minster Liz Truss. The fake quote went viral on X / Twitter and inspired various memes based on the premise of such an organization existing.

Origin

On September 30th, 2024, satirical X^[1] / Twitter account Politics For You (@PoliticoForYou) posted a fake quote attributed to British conservative politician Liz Truss. The fake quote had Truss accusing an "underground transgender mafia" of plotting against her and bringing her term as the Prime Minster of the United Kingdom to a premature end. The post (shown below) garnered over 970,000 views, 1,000 reposts and 2,000 likes on X / Twitter in one day.

Spread

Starting on the same day, made posts mocking Truss over the statement and posted memes based on the premise of "underground transgender mafia" existing. For example, on September 30th, 2024, X^[2] user @riseandgrindcor made a This Film Is Dedicated to the Brave Mujahideen Fighters of Afghanistan meme, recaptioning it with the name of the fictional crime organization. The post (shown below) received over 450 reposts and 2,900 likes in one day.

Later that day, X^[3] user @DachshundColin posted a "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition" meme that received over 220 reposts and 1,100 likes in one day (shown below).

More memes and jokes about the fictional organization were shared on X / Twitter and on Reddit on September 30th, 2024.
