On August 31st. 2024, Threads^[1] user tamiromari posted a screenshot from the mobile edition of Minecraft showing a pig named Freak attached to a lead with the "unleash" command underneath it. The post reads, "Guys should I unleash the Freak👀👅" and garnered over 1,900 likes and 150 reposts in eight months.

Spread

The meme garnered viral spread over the following months, inspiring other popular examples. On September 23rd, 2024, the image was reposted to the /r/PhoenixSC^[2] subreddit, garnering over 600 upvotes in seven months. On November 5th it was posted to the /r/MinecraftMemes^[3] subreddit, garnering over 1,100 upvotes in five months.

On November 17th, Instagram^[4] user realstiffy posted an edit of the meme that makes the pig yellow and adds the on-image caption, "I think I'm ready…," garnering over 73,000 likes in five months.

On November 23rd, Redditor u/Water__White posted a name soundalike meme using the image to the /r/namesoundalikes^[5] subreddit, likening the meme to the game Sonic Unleashed, garnering over 530 upvotes in five months. On December 14th, Redditor u/Round_Context_6370 posted a similar meme to the same subreddit^[6] likening the name to the Korn song "Freak on a Leash," garnering over 740 upvotes in four months.

On April 15th, 2025, X^[7] user @radraddles posted a piece of art based on the meme, captioned "this new lead update is wild," that replaces the pig with their OC cat girl character Raddles, garnering over 24,000 likes in a day.
