Minecraft Guy is an image macro series inspired by the indie sandbox game Minecraft. It features a slightly skewed image of the head from the game's default skin, accompanied by a color wheel background using patterns from various Minecraft blocks. The captions either describe humorous actions that a typical Minecraft player may perform or jokes about the game itself.

Origin

The first known instance of the Minecraft Guy meme was posted to the /r/gaming^[9] subreddit, titled "Minecraft in a nut shell," by Redditor onlythis on October 16th, 2010. The image macro, captioned "wake up on island, punch trees," received over 1,100 upvotes and 310 comments in six months.

Spread

Another early example was posted to the blog HALOLZ^[4] with the caption "Wake up on Island / Punch trees" on October 18th, 2010. The post has accumulated 145 shares on Facebook and received an average of 4.28 out of 5 stars from 212 votes as of November 1st, 2011.

A Quickmeme^[2] page was created in February of 2011, and the first instance was posted to the social news aggregator Reddit^[3] on February 24th, 2011.

A round-up of Minecraft-related image macros was posted to the blog Squidoo^[6] on July 3rd, 2011.

A Facebook fan page has 332 likes, the Quickmeme page has 1,142 submissions, and the Meme Generator page has 287 submissions as of November 1st, 2011. Additional derivatives can be found on Funny Junk^[7] and Tumblr.^[8]
