About

Velma Holding Daphne at Gunpoint or Velma Pointing Gun at Daphne is an exploitable comic panel depicting a criminal dressed as Velma from a 1970s Scooby-Doo… Where Are You! comic holding a gun up to Daphne and the rest of the gang as if about to shoot them. The comic, titled "Double Trouble," was originally published in 1976 and first went viral online in the mid-2010s, becoming the subject of memes throughout the 2020s where Velma's speech bubble is altered to depict Velma threatening Daphne.

Origin

In December 1976, issue 11 of Scooby Doo… Where Are You! was published, featuring four Scooby-Doo stories.[1][2] One of the stories is titled "Double Trouble." In the comic, a group of bank robbers impersonates the Mystery Inc. gang by dressing as them. In one panel, a robber dressed as Velma kidnaps the rest of the gang, holding a gun up to Daphne (shown below).

On August 13th, 2014, Tumblr[3] user scoobydoooutofcontext posted a high-quality screenshot of the panel with blank speech bubbles, garnering over 7,800 notes in nine years (shown below).

On July 17th, 2017, Tumblr[4] user acapelladitty posted an edit of the comic panel where Velma's speech bubble reads, "ain't no ghosts gonna f with us now," garnering over 217,000 notes in six years (shown below).

On August 4th, 2022, a version of the meme was posted to /r/Bossfight[5] and /r/MultiVersus,[6] garnering over 4,600 and 600 upvotes respectively in a year. On November 10th, 2023, Redditor u/massholeinct posted a new version of the meme to /r/ShermanPosting,[7] garnering over 5,400 upvotes in three days (shown below, left). On November 11th, u/LemonConnoiseur posted a version to /r/dankmemes,[8] garnering over 11,300 upvotes in two days (shown below, right).
