The scenes of Vince McMahon smelling and touching money and making "pay me" hand gestures originate from the Million Dollar Mania segment, one million dollars givaways which were a part of WWE Raw for three weeks between June 2nd and June 23rd, 2008.^[1] The GIF was originally created by wrestling community member Tri.Moon in 2013 or earlier. The earliest found post containing the GIF was made by Redditor^[2] jackcos on January 3rd, 2014, and received over 130 upvotes in six months (shown below).

Starting at least in early 2017, the GIF has been used in GIF captions on iFunny.^[4][5] On February 3rd, 2017, iFunny^[3] user Hayek_2015 posted one of the earliest found memes based on the GIF (shown below, left; more examples center and right).
