About

Wang Jingze (王境泽) is an image macro series based on images of his appearance on the TV show X-Change (变形计).

Origin

X-Change is a show in which two spoiled kids living in rich urban areas and a behaved kid living in poor rural areas switch places and live in each other's environment. The show focuses on the change of mind that the spoiled kids would go through in harsher living conditions. Wang Jingze is one of the spoiled kids in the 8th season of X-Change.

In the show, Wang Jingze initially refused to eat any food prepared by the rural family, and became easily irritated and violent, saying the following:

我王境泽就是饿死
死外边 从这里跳下去
不会吃你们一点东西

I, Wang Jingze, would rather starve to death,
or die outside, jump down from here,
than eat any of your food!

However, after about two hours[2], he gave in to his hunger, and even enjoyed the food, saying it's "so delicious" (真香). Just before the "so delicious" scene, a flashback of the above scene played, emphasizing the stark contrast. This made him go viral.

Spread

Soon after the episode containing the scenes aired on June 9th, 2014, the screenshots from the show became an image micro on the mainland Chinese internet, with the subtitles changed to describe other scenarios in which someone breaks their promise to never do something again. However, this initial boom only featured static images, as GIF meme generators weren't widely available at that time. Some instances only had the last "so delicious" scene for brevity, instead of the full set of 4 screenshots. The phrase "so delicious" itself can also be used to refer to this kind of situation.

Another usage of this meme is that, when someone posts that they will never do something, people may reply "so delicious warning" (真香警告), meaning that they expect OP to break the promise.

On February 23rd, 2018, V2EX user xtyxtyx made a GIF meme generator website for various Chinese memes. On March 4th, support for the Wang Jingze meme was added. This caused a resurgence of the meme[1], this time in GIF form. This resurgence also saw its spread to Taiwan.
