About
Water Sheep is a nickname of a Minecraft sheep stuck in a pool of water near PewDiePie's house in his 2019 Minecraft playthrough. Abusing and otherwise interacting with the sheep eventually became a part of PewDiePie's Minecraft routine, with the sheep becoming a popular character among the PewDiePie's viewers who posted multiple memes and fan art dedicated to it.
Origin
On June 23rd, YouTuber PewDiePie uploaded episode two "Im actually having… FUN? In MINECRAFT (hacked)" of's 2019 Minecraft playthrough.[1] In the episode, one of the sheep held by PewDiePie in a pen near his house escapes and can be seen stuck in a pool of water in the following episodes.
In episode four of the playthrough, another sheep allegedly took place of the Water Sheep while the original one escaped.
Spread
In the following episodes of the playthrough, PewDiePie nicknamed the stuck sheep "Water Sheep," eventually giving it a name tag "jeb_" in order to activate an easter egg. Starting in episode three of the playthrough,[2] PewDiePie verbally abuses, imprisons and eventually pretend tortures the sheep, leading to its accidental death in episode 14 "My Minecraft Sheep is Cancelled" on June 13th, 2019.[3]
In the later episodes of the series, PewDiePie builds a memorial and a church to honor the Water Sheep and pretends to communicate with it in the afterlife by sacrificing various animals.
The appearance of the character in the playthrough led to multiple posts containing memes and fanart of Water Sheep submitted to /r/PewdiepieSubmissions subreddit in July 2019.
