We Are Not Horses. We Are Humans and Humans Are… refers to a memorable quote from Squid Game character Seong Gi-hun (Player 456, portrayed by actor Lee Jung-jae) in the final episode of season 3. It was the character's last words before death and was a callback to words said by the Front Man, who compared the Squid Game players to horses in a horse race. The quote was honored and used in viral posts and memes on sites like TikTok, Twitter / X and Reddit. It notably became a TikTok audio and sound, used by other creators in mid-2025.

Origin

On June 27th, 2025, season 3, episode 6 of Squid Game titled "Humans Are…" was released on Netflix. ^[2] It was the season's last episode and showed the final part of the last Squid Game. The protagonist, Seong Gi-hun, passes away in the episode by walking off the edge of the game's pillar. His final words before falling backwards are, "We are not horses. We are humans and humans are…"^[1]

The scene's English dub was posted to YouTube^[3] by the channel RaNaNa on June 28th, 2025, gaining over 3 million views in 13 days (shown below).

The scene was used in edits on video platforms in the following days. For instance, on June 28th, 2025, YouTuber^[4] @skillerium posted an edit, gaining over 30 million views and 792,000 likes in 13 days (shown below).

On June 29th, TikToker^[5] @denizsevim710 posted an edit with the scene, using the clip of the Front Man saying, "You bet on horses. It's the same here but we bet on humans. You're our horses." The edit gained over 333,900 likes in 12 days (shown below).

On June 28th, 2025, TikToker^[7] @davidmaluco_ posted a video, showing himself with teary eyes and Gi-hun's quote in text overlay, gaining over 273,900 likes in 13 days (shown below).

On July 6th, Redditor ParsnipEast8059 posted a version of the meme to the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure shitposting subreddit /r/ShitPostCrusaders^[7] that included the character Johnny Joestar from the Steel Ball Run manga, receiving over 130 upvotes and six comments in six days (seen below).

On July 7th, 2025, TikToker^[6] @alwaysapplesx posted a Papa Squid Game meme, using a rotoscope over the We Are Not Horses scene, gaining over 45,600 likes in four days (shown below).
