About

We Didn't Say That refers to a segment of Lady Gaga's interview at the 76th Golden Globes Awards in which she struggles to find words to answer the interviewer's question. The recording of the interview was circulated on Twitter as a reaction video.

Origin

On January 6th, the 76th Golden Globes Awards ceremony took place in Beverly Hills, California. At the ceremony, during an interview to Entertainment Tonight[1], actress and singer Lady Gaga commented on her dress resembling the outfit worn by actress Judy Garland in 1954 film "A Star is Born".

You know what? I don't… I… We didn't say that. No, but it looks awful lot like that, doesn't that?

On January 8th, Twitter[2] user @dcagiunta used a segment of the interview in a joke as a reaction to an uncomfortable question. The tweet gained over 4,800 retweets withing three days.

Spread

Following @dcagiunta's tweet, other Twitter users used the video in their posts. A post made by Twitter[3] user @mario_xcx on the same day gained over 6,500 retweets in three days. A joke posted by Twitter[4] user @rhollingstones on January, 9th, received 900 retweets in two days.

In the next days, more variations of the joke followed, with the common setup being a person trying to explain embarrassing texts or internet history searches.

The trend was covered by several news outlets, including Mashable[5], BuzzFeed[6] and WMagazine[7].
