About

We Ride At Dawn Bitches refers to an image macro showing the character Big Bird from Sesame Street riding a carriage with the text "We ride at dawn bitches" overlaid. The image began seeing popular use as a reaction image starting in October of 2019.

Origin

The image comes from the original opening credits to Sesame Street, which aired in the late 60s and early 70s (shown below).



On July 4th, 2019, iFunny[1] user edDIE_NOW posted an image macro of the still that reads "We ride at dawn bitches!" with the caption "Flight: departs at 10 P.M. Dads:". The post gained 22 likes (shown below).

Precursor

Prior to becoming known with "We ride at dawn bitches," the image was used in several Bertstrips (shown below).

Spread

The "We Ride At Dawn" template did not begin spreading until October of 2019. On October 10th, the image posted to iFunny was reposted to /r/memes[2] by Supreme-Jenga, gaining over 22,000 points. The template than began spreading with multiple variations appearing over the following months. Popular examples include a post by fr1endk1ller on January 3rd, 2020 in /r/dankmemes[3] that gained over 34,000 points (shown below, left). A December 14th, 2019 post by randomthunks in /r/memes[4] gained over 29,000 points (shown below, right).
