About

Grover's F-Bomb refers to a clip from Sesame Street in which Grover says "That sounds like an excellent idea," but it sounded to some as "That's a fuckin' excellent idea." The phenomenon was compared to the similar audio dissonance phenomenon Yanny or Laurel.

Origin

On November 24th, 2018, Twitter user @pbump tweeted a clip of Grover saying "That sounds like an excellent idea" with the caption "uh, that's what?" In the replies, he makes clear that he hears Grover saying "That's a fuckin' excellent idea."

Spread

On December 27th, 2018, Redditor schrodert posted the same clip to /r/funny saying they may have found the next "Yanny vs. Laurel" and that they heard Grover say "That's a fuckin' excellent idea." The post gained over 119,000 points.[1] It was reposted to Twitter by @EvanEdinger[2] and gained over 6,200 retweets and 20,000 likes. The posts sparked debate online, though all conceded that it was highly unlikely Grover would be swearing. User @RobMarmet said he heard the swear even though he knew it was not possible, gaining over 70 retweets and 380 likes (shown below, left). User @WTPSports tweeted the clip as a reaction with the caption "When it’s 1am and she says “why don’t you come over”," gaining over 80 retweets (shown below, right). Reactions were covered by Twitter Moments,[3] Mashable,[4] TMZ,[5] and others.
